Environmental conservation has been taken on an important dimension as we are facing challenges of global warming and scarcity of natural resources. Po Leung Kuk, as a responsible charity organization and a major provider of social, cultural and recreational services in Hong Kong, will spare no effort to raise the environmental awareness of the Hong Kong community and more importantly, Hong Kong status as an environmentally-friendly city.
We commit to evolving into a green organization. Environmental friendliness is being a core element of our management philosophy and corporate culture. We have drawn up her green vision and mission, promulgated the Environmental Policy within the organization and is at different stages of integrating a spectrum of environmental-friendly initiatives into every facet of our services with an aim to educate and engage the staff and the public at large in environmental improvement.
In January 2010, the Environment and Conservation Fund ("ECF") Committee granted an in-principle approval of $31 million to our application for a three-year environmental programme of carrying out green projects in our schools, services centres and camp sites. Up to December 2010, 116 projects have been approved by ECF.
Funding from ECF provides the indispensable impetus to our evolvement into a green organization in the next three years. Our mission does not end with the accomplishment of the plan. We will undertake continuous review of her Environmental Policy and look into possibility of future development with a view to building a green PLK and a green Hong Kong.
